Easy Granola

Breakfast is an important meal for a lot of people.  Of course, it’s easy to miss out on it if you’re always rushed in the morning.  Studies have shown that eating breakfast will keep you slim, balance out your moods, keep your brain functioning clearly and give you energy.

Granola is a very tasty and healthy breakfast. It’s satisfying and filling.  However, the granola that comes from the store is often full of oil and all kinds of weird and unnecessary stuff.  It can also be very expensive!

Here is a quick and simple recipe that you can make any time with very few ingredients.  It’s nothing fancy, but it tastes very good with some homemade yogurt on top.

  • 4 C. Oatmeal (you can use instant if it’s all you have)
  • 1 C. peanuts
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 t. Cinnamon
  • pinch nutmeg
  • 1 C. Honey (more or less, depending how sweet you like it)

Preheat oven to 300°.   Mix oatmeal and peanuts in a large bowl.  Add salt, cinnamon and nutmeg and mix thoroughly.  Add honey and stir until the oats and nuts well covered.  Pour mixture onto baking sheet.  Bake for 30 to 40 minutes, and stir every 10 minutes while its baking.  Store in an airtight container.

Optionally, you could also add a handful of sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds, or any nuts you have around. You can add any granola-like ingredient you can think of.

Homemade Deodorant

Some folks believe that many store-bought deodorants are  harmful. There is evidence that it could be a factor in the development of Alzheimer’s and breast cancer.

It also can be observed that not everybody is stinky, especially when the weather is cool. You will notice, though, that many people in developed countries choose to put deodorant on every day anyhow. There is an interesting (if you’re into this sort of thing)  article on Wikipedia, which mentions the history of deodorant:

“In 1888, the first commercial deodorant, Mum, was developed and patented by a U.S. inventor in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1888 whose name has been lost to history.”

If you are afraid of stinking  but don’t want to buy deodorant, there are many methods available.  One option is to wash under your arms frequently.  Another is to avoid over processed foods and meat. There is also the old stand-by of powdering your underarms with baking soda.

Here is a method for making a deodorant if you’re still worried about it. It contains no aluminum and costs less than commercial deodorant.  The total cost for all the stuff needed to get started may seem high, but you could make A LOT of deodorant from these ingredients.
